About Norfolk Safaris

Norfolk Safaris is a small, family run outfit operating on the beautiful north Norfolk coast. Safaris run from the Holme Dunes Nature Reserve exploring the fascinating coastal environment including saltmarsh, dunes and beach.

We will soon be offering tailor made safaris to small groups and families of three to twelve people suited to your interests and requirements.

‘safari’ - a word originating from Swahili meaning ‘journey’

safari refers to an excursion or expedition to observe, photograph and learn about local wildlife, most commonly (but not exclusively) in Africa.

Norfolk Safaris Guide - Ellen

Prior to settling down in Norfolk, Ellen worked as a safari guide in central Africa for many years. Swapping the savannah for seaside, she specialised in ecology and conservation at the University of East Anglia and since has qualified as a Forest School and Beach Schools Practitioner (L3) . She has a passion for wildlife and the outdoors and loves having the opportunities of sharing it others.

Practicalities

Bookings:

Safaris run all year around. Each safari is different, reflecting the ever-changing wildlife, tides and weather on the Norfolk coast. For this reason, we’ll chat to you before your trip to agree a departure time and answer any questions you may have.

Prices:

£8 per person, free for children below 3 yrs.

Duration:

Safaris take roughly 3 hours, depending on the interests of the group.

Toilets:

The best plan is to go before you set out. Toilets are located at the Norfolk Wildlife Trust visitors centre, which is about a 10 -15 minute walk.

Parking:

There is a parking area on your left just as you enter the reserve. For more than one vehicle, a parking fee of £4.25 is charged by the Norfolk Wildlife Trust.

Refreshments:

Hot or cold drinks and a snack will be provided on the safari. Please alert us when you book to any allergies.

Suggested Kit List

  • Layers of clothes that can get dirty, wet or muddy
  • Waterproofs
  • Woolly hats, scarves and gloves for the colder months; sunhats and sun cream for the warmer ones
  • You may want to bring your own water bottles as well
  • Extra snacks for small hungry tummies
  • Camera
  • Binoculars if you have them
  • Sensible shoes
